The Texas Supreme Court sided with the Public Utility Commission in two electricity pricing-related cases that stemmed from the 2021 blackouts and their aftermath. The two rulings track with previous ones by the court, deferring to the authority of the agency over utilities.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives exceeded its statutory authority with a rule that classifies a bump stock as a "machinegun," SCOTUS wrote in siding with Texas gun store owner Michael Cargill. Justice Samuel Alito noted concurrently that Congress may amend the law to ban bump stocks if it chooses to.
