Going into halftime of the Crew's match against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Friday, NYCFC was in control with a 1-0 lead despite being down a man following a red card violation in the 39th minute.
The second half would ultimately be the difference in deciding the winner of the match, as the Crew would score three goals in 20 minutes, leading to a 3-2 victory.
Christian Ramirez put Columbus on the board at the 51-minute mark, once VAR review deemed an initial offside call against Mo Farsi was incorrect. Farsi would then score a goal of his own minutes later to break the 1-1 tie.
Farsi, who turned out to be involved with every Columbus goal in one way or another, was fouled in the box in the 63rd minute. The foul led to striker Cucho Hernandez's first penalty kick connection of the season, giving the Crew a 3-1 lead.
A late goal from NYCFC's Santiago Rodriguez and nine saves by New York City's goalkeeper Matt Freese would fail to be enough for the Pigeons to overcome Columbus.

In the final minutes of the 14-minute stoppage time, the Crew made one more substitution, Derrick Jones for Christian Ramirez.

Santiago Rodriguez was able to bring the match closer in reach for NYCFC, cutting the Crew's lead to 3-2 with a goal late in the match. Taking the ball up field, Rodriguez entered Columbus' box, which led to goalkeeper Patrick Schulte stepping up prematurely to attempt to stop Rodriguez.
Schulte misplayed the attempted stop, leaving the goal wide open for Rodriguez to score.

The Crew made two more substitutions in the second half, putting forward Alex Matan in for Cucho Hernandez and defender Steven Moreira in for Max Arfsten.

Aidan Morris is the Crew's first substitution of the match, as he replaced Yevhen Cheberko over halfway through the second half.

After being awarded a penalty kick on a foul suffered by Mo Farsi in NYCFC's box, striker Cucho Hernandez set up and drilled the attempt for Columbus, giving the Crew a two-goal lead, 3-1. Hernandez's shot was to the top right corner of NYCFC's goal, far out of the reach of goalkeeper Matt Freese.
This is Hernandez's first made penalty kick, in either MLS or CONCACAF Champions Cup play, of the season.

After another VAR review, the officials found that Mo Farsi was fouled in the box by NYCFC's Hannes Wolf, right at the edge of New York's goal line. Cucho Hernandez will take the penalty kick for Columbus.

Less than four minutes after forward Christian Ramirez's goal was officially put on the board, Mo Farsi followed it up with another close-range goal to give the Crew a 2-1 lead.
Farsi scored the goal off a save from goalkeeper Matt Freese on a Max Arfsten shot. Deflecting the ball to the feet of Farsi, the midfielder quickly tapped the ball into the back of the goal from the middle of NYCFC's box.

Originally, the sideline official ruled that Crew midfielder Mo Farsi was offsides, nullifying Christian Ramirez's goal, which he scored by tapping the ball past goalkeeper Matt Freese in the box after receiving the ball from Cucho Hernandez. After review of the play, the officials overturned the offsides call, tying the match 1-1.

The Crew, despite being up a man from the 39th minute, are down 1-0 on the road against NYCFC following a goal from forward Agustin Ojeda.
NYCFC's goalkeeper Matt Freese recorded eight saves in the first half to keep Columbus off the board. Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte finished the half with one save.

NYCFC forward Agustin Ojeda was able to send a shot past Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte to give New York a 1-0 advantage.
Alonso Martinez found Ojeda in Columbus' box and sent Ojeda a back pass. Once in control of the ball, Ojeda took a few dribbles to the middle of the box, where he launched his shot to the left of goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.

NYCFC will play the majority of the match against the Crew down a man, as Mitia Ilenic was ejected from the match following a red card violation. Ilenic was given the red card due to a foul against Christian Ramirez in which Ilenic pushed Ramirez while running up field and attempting to collect the ball off a pass near NYCFC's box.
(26') NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese records fourth save on Diego Rossi attempt for Crew
Crew forward Diego Rossi received a pass inside NYCFC's box, near the goal to the right of goalkeeper Matt Freese. Taking a quick shot attempt, Freese was able to jump in front of the shot for his fourth save in the first half.

The Crew held NYCFC shotless for over 20 minutes into the match, but forward Hannes Wolf broke through Columbus' backline and recorded a shot from the top of the box for New York's first attempt of the night. Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte drove to his right to make the save.

Crew striker Cucho Hernandez is the first player to record a shot attempt for the Crew in the match against NYCFC. Setting up his shot near the top of New York's box, Hernandez launched the ball towards the right side of the goal, but goalkeeper Matt Freese was able to make a diving save.
Columbus Crew coach Wilfried Nancy thoughts on playing at Yankee Stadium
There is still quite a while before a Crew road match against NYCFC will be played at the club's new built-for-soccer stadium, set to open in 2027, rather than at a baseball ballpark. When that day does come, it will be a welcome change to Nancy.
"I’m so happy because it’s not good for the league," Nancy said. "People who can watch all our games all over the world, when they see that we play on the baseball field, this is not good at all, simple as that. ... We know why we do that, but people overseas, they don't know why we do that. And if we want to be good, we cannot play on this type of pitch."
